The Anllares thermal power plant installations are located in Anllares del Sil, in León
Anllares thermal power plant was located in Anllares del Sil, in the municipality of Páramo del Sil in the province of León, the most important urban centre nearby being Ponferrada, some 40km south of the installation site. The installation is owned by the companies Naturgy Generación, S.L.U. and Endesa Generación in a proportion of two thirds and one third, respectively. A group of companies called “Central Térmica de Anllares – Partnership” was created for its commercial operation, with Naturgy being responsible for its management.

In defining the dismantling works, environmental measures and safety procedures have been considered a priority to ensure they are carried out correctly and that third parties and the environment are not affected.
The buildings and installations at the power plants feature different types and combinations of structural elements. Therefore, a combination of manual and mechanical procedures have been incorporated into the dismantling and demolition methodology, in some cases combining the two types of procedures and using explosives to carry out controlled blasting.
- The tasks of cleaning and removing explosive atmospheres from deposits and circuits.
- The electrical systems (including the power transformers), the main equipment (turbine, alternator, mills, fans, etc.) and a large part of the interconnection pipes between the boiler and the turbine have been dismantled, having previously had their thermal insulation removed.
There are around 90 people on site working on these tasks, of which the following are locally hired:
- 9 people from the Just Transition Institute list (seven of them residents in Cerceda, Ordes or Carral).
- 17 people from Cerceda, Ordes and Carral.
- 45 people from other municipalities in the province.
Occasional participation of local companies
Following several weeks of preparation, Naturgy successfully carried out the controlled demolition of the cooling tower at Anllares thermal power plant. The operation was carried out with the maximum security measures, minimum environmental impact and rigorous compliance with current regulations. The tower was approximately 111 metres high with a diameter on the ground of 33 metres, the volume of its hyperboloid shape totalling around 745,000 m3 and weighing more than 8,000 tonnes.
Following several weeks of preparation, Naturgy today successfully carried out the controlled demolition of the boiler at Anllares thermal power plant. The operation was carried out with the maximum security measures, the minimum environmental impact and rigorous compliance with current regulations. The boiler was 61 metres high and weighed around 8,200 tonnes.
