NEDGIA Castilla-La Mancha, the Gas Natural Fenosa group’s gas distribution company in the region, rewarded the Rafael López de Haro Pre-school and Primary Education School in San Clemente (Cuenca) and the pupil Rosa Matoque Tovar from CEIP Eduardo Sanchez in Tarazona de La Mancha (Albacete) with prizes from the Fungastic Education Programme drawing contest, aimed at promoting knowledge and awareness about best practices in natural gas consumption in the home among primary schoolchildren around the country.
The Fungastic education programme was supported by various schools in Castile-La Mancha, which presented a total of 341 pieces. The Rafael López de Haro public school in San Clemente took the prize for education centre from which most pupils took part. The prize for best drawing was presented to Rosa Matoque Tovar (9 years old), a pupil at CEIP Eduardo Sanchiz in Tarazona de la Mancha (Albacete).
The prize award ceremonies took place successively in the two towns. The NEDGIA Castilla-La Mancha Delegate in Cuenca and Albacete, Manuel Sánchez, and the Fungastic Programme Director, Marta Porrà, presented the prize to the Headmaster of CEIP Rafael López de Haro, Eduardo Sánchez. Manuel Sánchez and Marta Porrà then travelled to Tarazona de la Mancha in order to present a prize to the winning pupil, Rosa Matoque, who was accompanied by her parents and her school’s Head of Studies, Francisco José Cuartero.
The goal of this competition was to complement and support the Fungastic education programme and lend it continuity outside of the classroom by maintaining a level of curiosity in pupils about natural gas as a source of energy and by applying the knowledge learned at school to real situations. The competition asked children to draw a good practice relating to domestic gas consumption.
The Rafael López de Haro school achieved the highest level of participation by its pupils in the contest when compared with the total number of contestants. For this reason, it received a set of two urban cultivation tables to create its own vegetable garden. The prize for best drawing consists of a weekend trip to Barcelona for the whole family, including accommodation and a visit to the Gas Museum.
This initiative, undertaken at various education centres in several autonomous regions of Spain in partnership with the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, was designed for understanding, learning, playing and developing knowledge and attitudes around this important natural and energy resource. The activities took place at schools, which proposed various participation dynamics and hands-on activities so that pupils could learn through experimentation, taking part in a contest and demonstrating the knowledge they had learned.

The Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation has vast experience with educational activities through its Gas Museum. This cultural centre, opened in 2012, has a schedule of educational activities for all ages in which more than 56,000 students and around 500,000 users have taken part. The Fungastic education programme is touring the country to visit various towns and cities in the different autonomous regions of Spain.
