The Naturgy Foundation reaches an agreement with Accem for the energy rehabilitation of homes of families at risk of social exclusion

  • This new collaboration means that six social entities will now be able to benefit from the Naturgy Foundation’s Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund in order to make the homes of disadvantaged families more habitable and energy efficient.
  • The initiative, which is part of Naturgy’s Energy Vulnerability Plan, follows the guidelines of the 2019-2024 National Strategy to tackle Energy Poverty.

The Naturgy Foundation and Accem will collaborate in order to improve energy efficiency in the homes of the families at risk of social exclusion and that are assisted by the NGO. Thanks to the resources provided by Naturgy’s Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund, actions will be able to be carried out in 15 homes.

The Naturgy Foundation’s director general, María Eugenia Coronado, explained that “thanks to the addition of new lines of collaboration with administrations and third sector entities, we are reinforcing the activities of the Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund, with which we want to contribute to the fight against energy poverty.”

The agreement follows on from those already signed with other social organisations (Foment de l’Habitatge Social, Hábitat 3, Fundación para la Caridad de la Construcción de Cáritas, the Mambré Foundation and the Tengo Hogar Foundation) which already have access to the Energy Rehabilitation Solidarity Fund to carry out rehabilitation, equipment and efficiency actions in the flats they manage.

This new agreement will enable the Foundation to continue undertaking actions following the guidelines of the study “Re-habilitación exprés para hogares vulnerables” This publication, sponsored by the Naturgy Foundation, promotes energy efficiency improvements in vulnerable homes, at a low cost but with a big impact on people’s quality of life and on family energy bills. The measures established include repairing and purchasing heating systems, and window closures and glazing; fixing and installing electricity and gas equipment, and anything that improves general energy efficiency in homes.

This agreement with Accem is in line with the 2019-2024 National Strategy to tackle Energy Poverty, which establishes the energy rehabilitation of properties as one of the short-, medium- and long-term lines of action to address this problem structurally. Likewise, it is part of the Naturgy Energy Vulnerability Plan, the objectives of which include improving the quality of life of groups affected by energy poverty and advising them on matters relating to energy consumption or paying for energy services.

Set up by the power company in 1992, the Naturgy Foundation seeks to educate, train, inform and raise awareness throughout society of energy and environmental issues. It also develops social action programmes both nationally and internationally, in particular by supporting initiatives aimed at alleviating energy vulnerability.

Accem is a non-profit organisation, whose mission is to defend fundamental rights, provide care and support to people who are in a situation or at risk of social exclusion, seeking integration and autonomy within society and promoting solidarity. Accem acts at state level across 12 Autonomous Communities as well as Ceuta and Melilla, and is recognised as a public utility entity.
