Nedgia Castilla-La Mancha and Guadalajara Council study new projects related to gas

  • Distribution company managers in the Gas Natural Fenosa group region present the new brand to the mayor and congratulate him on his commitment to vehicular natural gas in urban transport.

Guadalajara Mayor, Antonio Román, and Nedgia Castilla-La Mancha General Manager, Miguel Martín de Pinto, held a work meeting at Guadalajara City Council today which was also attended by the energy company’s provincial delegate, Germán Jara, and deputy mayor and councillor for Sustainable Urban Development, Jaime Carnicero.

During the meeting, managers from the Gas Natural Fenosa group distributor presented the new Nedgia Castilla-La Mancha brand to the Mayor of Guadalajara. This new brand replaces Gas Natural Castilla-La Mancha, enabling the company to embark on a new period focused on growth and the transformation of its activity, bringing well-being to the 267,000 supply points in Castilla-La Mancha, 43,500 in the province, of which 24,300 are in the city of Guadalajara.

One of the issues covered at the meeting was Nedgia’s conviction that natural gas will play a decisive role in improving air quality in Spanish cities. They also discussed the need to develop infrastructure and extend supply points to enable more citizens to access this energy, a clean energy that facilitates the transition to a low-carbon economy and a renewable energy model.

In addition to studying future projects associated with gas in which the Council and the energy company have common interests, they also reviewed the actions taken by Nedgia Castilla-La Mancha to promote the use of vehicular natural gas to transport both passengers and goods.

In that point, the Nedgia Castilla-La Mancha managers congratulated the Mayor of Guadalajara on the City Council’s commitment in recent years to efficient and sustainable urban transport, as 20 of the 29 public city buses are driven by natural gas and the goal is to replace the rest as they reach the end of their useful life.

It is worth recalling that the Vehicular Natural Gas (VNG) used in transport helps reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by over 85% and suspended particles by almost 100%. These are the main pollutants which affect health. Natural gas also reduces noise pollution, because a natural gas engine produces 50% less noise than a conventional one. Likewise, it is a very competitive fuel from an economic point of view when compared to diesel and petrol, with savings of up to 30% and 50% respectively.

Finally, both parties emphasised the need to continue the close collaboration they have maintained until now in order to ensure further progress in both technical contributions and corporate social responsibility projects in Guadalajara.
