The mayor of Plasencia, Fernando Pizarro, and the head of renewable project development at Naturgy in Extremadura, Ana Ruiz, have signed a partnership agreement through which the multinational power company will be a sponsor of the Noche Abierta in Plasencia for the second year in a row.
“Through this agreement, Naturgy continues to demonstrate its commitment to the whole of Extremadura, and Plasencia in particular. Our commitment to this region is also reflected through our support for initiatives such as the Noche Abierta,” stated Ana Ruiz.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Plasencia stressed the importance of this sponsorship “for a cultural night that is now well-established in the city and highlights the involvement of Plasencia locals in all the scheduled activities”.
The Noche Abierta is an initiative that has received an extraordinary response since it started, with thousands of people flocking to the city centre every year. It is the local version of the “Noches en blanco” which is held in many Spanish cities, and is scheduled for September in Plasencia. One of its objectives is to showcase the cultural and leisure aspects of the city.
Naturgy in Extremadura
Naturgy, through its renewable energy subsidiary, has constructed the first wind farm, the Merengue wind farm, in Extremadura. It consists of a total of 15 wind turbines, which have an installed capacity of 40 MW and their installation has involved an investment of nearly €40 million. The park will produce around 155 GWh per year, the equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 44,000 homes, double the electricity consumption of Plasencia in a whole year.
Besides the Merengue Wind Farm, the company is developing other projects in Extremadura. These projects include the Las Jaras de Badajoz photovoltaic power plant located between La Albuera and Badajoz with an installed power capacity of 50 MW, and the Miraflores photovoltaic power plant in Castuera, which will have an installed power capacity of 20 MW.
Furthermore, Naturgy is currently studying a number of other projects for development in the region, thus confirming the company’s commitment to Extremadura.
Naturgy Renovables
The renewables subsidiary of the power company closed the first quarter of 2019 with an installed capacity in operation of 1,179 MW in Spain (1,012 MW from wind, 109 MW from mini-hydroelectric plants and 58 MW from cogeneration and photovoltaics).
